In the past 20 years, the city of Hanoi has increasingly given over the responsibility of urban planning to large, international developers. The result has been the creation of NewTowns, large blocks of land developed without any consideration of their surroundings or any existing inhabitants or programs on the site.
This project addresses one such New Town, Ciputra, named after its developer. On the site is an existing cemetery that is scheduled to be demolished in order to make way for high-rise condos. This project looks to protect the cemetery as well as the complex social functions it serves for the adjacent villages.
